About Rapid Medical

Rapid Medical, established by Jeff Kirkham—a retired Master Sergeant with the 19th Special Forces Group and former DEA Special Agent—focuses on developing innovative medical solutions for both military and civilian applications. The company is renowned for its flagship product, the R.A.T.S. (Rapid Application Tourniquet System), which was conceived during Kirkham's tour in Afghanistan. Frustrated with the inefficiencies of existing tourniquets, especially under low-light conditions, he set out to create a more efficient design. This endeavor led to the development of the R.A.T.S. Tourniquet, emphasizing speed, ease of use, and versatility.

The R.A.T.S. Tourniquet is distinguished by its simplicity and rapid application. Crafted with a vulcanized rubber core encased in a durable nylon sheath, it ensures swift and effective hemorrhage control. Its design accommodates all limb sizes, making it suitable for adults, children, and even canines. Users commend its compact form factor, allowing for discreet and convenient carry, and its intuitive application process, which can be executed single-handedly.

While the R.A.T.S. Tourniquet offers notable advantages, some critiques have emerged regarding its application speed and pressure distribution. Studies suggest that while it effectively occludes blood flow, the time to achieve full occlusion may be longer compared to traditional windlass-style tourniquets. Additionally, concerns have been raised about the potential for increased pain due to the thinness of the band. It's important to note that, as of September 2020, the R.A.T.S. Tourniquet has not been approved by the Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care (CoTCCC), though it holds approval from the U.S. Special Operations Medical Association (USSOFAME).

Rapid Medical continues to innovate, offering a range of products designed for rapid response to medical emergencies. Their commitment to quality and user-centric design ensures that individuals are equipped with reliable tools to address critical situations effectively.
